Review of True Romance from Spin Magazine:
A brilliant, blood-drenched boy's own story from director Tony Scott (The Last Boy Scout) and writer Quentin Tarantino (Reservoir Dogs). Dazzaled by his enthusiasm for kung fu movies, comic books and Elvis, plaint call girl Patricia Arquette marries shambling loner Christian Slater. Acting on the advice of the ghost of the King (Val Kilmer), Slater wastes his new wife's pimp (Gary Oldman) and the pair take off for Hollywood hoping to bankroll their future with a tankful of drugs-stolen , unbeknownst to them, from the mob. Dead bodies almost outnumber pop culture references and the movie takes on the tone of a hateful letter to L.A. The ultra-high-testosterone ensemble includes Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken (whose scene together will go down in the annals), Brad Pitt, and a coke-snorting Bronson Pinchot (Cousin Balki!).
